Dutch gangster killed in Thailand

Published on Nov 02 , 2005

BANGKOK - Reputed Dutch gangster Jonh Mieremet was gunned down Wednesday near Thailand's seaside resort town of Pattaya, officials said.

"I can confirm that he has been murdered today and we have sent two people from the embassy to Pattaya to look into this matter," Dutch ambassador Peter Marres told AFP.

Mieremet was killed around 10 am (0300 GMT) at his home in the Singtopark neighborhood of Banglamung district outside Pattaya, about 70 kilometres (45 miles) southeast of Bangkok, police Colonel Chakarin Thuasuparp told AFP.

He was pronounced dead at hospital, Chakarin said.

Mieremet was considered one of the Netherlands' most notorious criminals, and operated with his partner Sam Klepper, who was killed in 2000.

Together, they had been known as "Spic 'n' Span", after an American brand of cleaning powder./Agence France Presse

Dutch drug-lord murdered in mafia style shooting in Jomtien.

A case of murder now from the Singdor Park Village in Soi Chayapreuk 2 in Jomtien. Police were alerted to the suspected murder by Khun Sooganya aged 29 who is married to Mr. John Mieremet, a well-known Dutch drug-lord. Dutch Justice Officials allege he is a cold-hard killer and a prime figure in the crime world of Amsterdam. Mr. Mieremet survived a shooting in Holland on 26 February 2002. The report from his Thai wife claimed that he had been inside the site office with his Wife when two men approached on a motorbike. Both men had their faces concealed and approached the front door of the office. One of them shouted out the name “John” and opened fire, hitting Mr. Mieremet three times, twice in the head and once in the body. Khun Sooganya suggested the shooter may have been of foreign origin but could not be entirely sure. The exact motive for the killing is unknown but suggestions it may be related to his activities in Holland have been discussed by investigating officers who inspected the body at the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital. The investigation continues and we expect further updates on the story in the coming days.

Post Shocking
To applaud a murder by assassins is a disgrace no matter how evil the victim.

Well, as far as I'm concerned the world is a little better now, here in Holland Mr.Mieremet was a well known scumbag and it was only a matter of time before he was gunned down.

Well said, Wowpow!  No extra-judicial murder is ever justified.

I am reminded of what the British comic actor Arthur Mullard once said when he heard someone arguing that the murdering British gangsters the Kray brothers were not really so bad "because they only killed their own kind".

"Yes", said Arthur, "human beings."

Don't you think that's an insult to the animals?  They only kill for food to survive , not like these "human" scumbags who do it for luxuary and don't give a shit about other lives.  In this case I would say, congratulations civilization.

A thousand exceptions to this platitude spring to mind.  For example, I do not believe it would have been a disgrace to applaud had one of the assasination attempts on Hitler succeeded.

Absolutely - applauding a vigilante culture is the pathway to hell.

Hitler? Hardly a very profound comparison - a state of war existed, m'dear.
