Visas are not required for either you or your Thai friend. (Passports for each are required, of course.) When we visited there last year, however, I passed through immigration easily but the official started grilling my boyfriend about why was he coming to Hong Kong and where would he be staying. I had to walk back to the official and tell him that we were traveling together, and he then quickly stamped his passport and waved him through. I therefore suggest that you both stand in the same line and allow your boyfriend to go first, so that you will be there to assist if any questions arise.

On my bf and my most recent visit to Europe, he got a Schengen visa from the Greek embassy In Bangkok, as Santorini was our main destination. We transited in Amsterdam, though, and went through immigration there.
Dutch immigration made us sit in the immigration office for half an hour while they "confirmed" that the Greek visa was authentic. There were no questions made to us: they just took his passport away and made us sit there. It seemed to be the visa they were doubtful of, not my bf (he is well traveled and is already on his second 10-year US visa). Anyway, after 30 minutes, they came back and said everything was fine and to have a nice trip. Strange. |

Good Advice Manfarang!
Recently my b/f and I visited Hong Kong for 5 days.... No Visa required as he had Thai Passport and I am from USA. But, as Manfarang has wisely pointed out....I recommend that you and your b/f be in SAME line for Immigration Entry into Hong Kong ...and DEPARTURE too! In fact my b/f got more questions as he was leaving Hong Kong than when he arrived....None asked on arrival....but many looks and questions as he was leaving Hong Kong and as soon as the Immigration Officials both at Immigration and ....especially at the Boarding gates ...they asked him about his trip to Hong Kong...and as soon as they saw he was with me...the b/f passed thru the departure gates easily. I have found this also to be very true when we visited Beijing last September together and on entry and departure into Amsterdam just last month for our visit to Europe (Netherlands, France, and Belgium). Once the Dutch Immigration Officer saw that I was accompanying my b/f into the Netherlands at Amsterdam Schipol Airport...he quickly stamped my b/f's Schengen Visa for entry. But he already had seen the Schengen Visa....and was asking questions of my b/f too. That is when my b/f pointed out that I was traveling with him. Enjoy Hong Kong....and may I add...Disney Hong Kong opens in September, 2005.....and from the wonderful experiences my b/f had at Disneyland Paris..I would highly recommend a day at Disney Hong Kong!
