I'm willing to bet that the one on the RIGHT would be lower maintenance, but I thought they were both cute "puppies".



For the newbies - the weekend market at Chatuchak is really, really good people-watching territory.  Your Thai acquaintances may refer to it as "JJ", and an alternate alliterated spelling is Jatujak.  

It's an easy and enjoyable morning out alone if you aren't with someone, too.  Take the BTS to the Mo Chit end of the line station and just follow the crowd.  I've read estimates that it's around 25 acres, between 10-15,000 stalls and gets between 200 to 300,000 shoppers every weekend.  



You're quite liable to see most everything you can imagine (and some you probably shouldn't) for sale there.  There are ATMs available, but I've often been cautioned by my Thai friends to keep a close eye on my wallet and valuables - so let the shopper beware.



I get there by 8:30 at the latest and get the hell out of there by noon.  It's unpleasantly hot for me by 11:30, usually.  I highly recommend staying hydrated while there, as is wise most any time you're out in the sun/heat in Thailand.

Absolutely a great place for shopping and eye candy.  There is also a nice park across the street towards Mo Chit with many hot friendly lads. Definitely do a meal there.  Wonderful local cooking.

The nice park is Chatuchak Park. There's another one around the corner called RotFai (Railway) Park, Nearby is the cruisy Central Ladprao.

Your better off taking the subway (MRT) and getting off at Kamphangphet. That stop is right in the market and you don't have to walk back along a narrow crowded sidewalk from the BTS Mo Chit station.

Then if you want to check out Central Lad Phrao, get back in the MRT and get off at Phahonyothin not station Lad Phrao as you might think. Then you have to cross a set of foot bridges over the intersection. Just follow all the students who are out of school and heading for the mall. I don't think it's all that cruisy but after Chathuchak you can sit in the AC and have lunch or something.

I like the Food Court on the first floor of Central Lad Phrao, next to the Home Pro. It's one of the up scale types with table service and I love the Vietnamese food there.

There is one place in Chathuchak that has AC where you can have lunch. From MRT Kamphangphet walk to the street in the market, take a left then the first right opposite the Kamphangphet road entrance and an information counter, you will see a Bangkok Bank, just past the bank you will see a restaurant where the road dog legs to the left with a red sign. Inside and outside garden seating. They serve beer too.

It's just past the 3B toilet where the urinal is a wall of flowing water where some guys seem to stand there forever presumably trying to pass urine. I can see what the problem is with some, they have an erection, that does make starting the flow difficult. Poor guys.

The new JJ mart in Chathuchak has AC and many of the same items that the stalls outside offer at the same price but some the prices are very farang/Thai duel priced. A lamp for me was priced at 4,500B and the same lamp for the BF with me out of sight was 650B.

Another fun and adventurous but quite slow way to get to Chathuchak is to take the ChaoPhraya boat to the Bang Pho ferry pier (N22) you have to change boats if your coming from the Sapan Taksan to the Nonthaburi ferry. There are vans and Motocy's that meet the boat and take you to Bang Sue RR station and MRT, go back one stop on the MRT.

Its not really nice there I think, I went there last weekend, Its very hot and too many people everywhere.  
You start walking and everywhere they sell the same stuff , its ok if you just wanna buy a few tshirts ,
do it and get out of there, if you try to stay there too long , it will kill you. ...

I'll take the puppy on the left.  Hopefully he is housebroken and knows some tricks like kneeling and rolling over.   Seriously he's very cute and the weekend market can be very enjoyable.  I only go in the cooler season tho and enjoy the people watching.

Yes.  As Yogi Berra remarked, "Nobody goes there any more.  It's too crowded."   :-)

Chathuchak (sp?) can be fun to go to if you're in the mood. Each time I go there 3-4 times a year, I always discover a new section I didn't know about. One of the strangest clothing sections I ran into was the used clothing area...the shops had the used clothing hanging on hangers and each shop was focused on a shopper's certain need... a shop full of nothing but used  Western Cowboy shirts; a couple selling used sport jerseys; another  one selling used T shirts from all over the States; shops selling loads of used shoes. One shop had taken used small size  T shirts and altered them with a V neck with lace for woman. (Fortunately no used underwear shops)  But if you're into decor items, you just as well go to Lupinee Night Market where many of the shops have AC and it is not as crowded...same prices.
