Thanks to John Botting for sharing his medical problems
I have just completed tum and bum medical procedures, after reading of Johns condition
I have to thank you for being so frank about your medical condition , my own report indicated I acted just in time and my friends are becoming concerned now as well. I only acted after reading your threads. Not pleasant for someone still thinking I am just middle aged [I fool myself] I cannot understand why it was not recommended to me. Maybe they thought I would not accept. I am glad that I got a warning in time.
Do not stop posting after you return to the UK. I would enjoy hearing how you and BS survive in that cold place.
My best wishes to you both and may you have a pleasant life together

tum and bum medical procedures = Colonoscopy?
How old are you?
Where was it performed?
How much did it cost?
How long did it take?

I too would like to thank John for sharing his latest adventure and all the other posts he has made in the past.
I have been rude to you John (and others) in some posts on this board in the past. I AM SORRY.
I want to say sorry to all I have been blunt with. It is so easy to be an IDIOT on line as you can see from some of my posts and all of our Hydra Heads who reside here.
Sad.
I realize that it isn't New Years, but who says we cannot make resolutions all year long?
From (June 12, 2008) onwards, I will try and keep my personal insults to myself.
Better yet I will realize that IDIOTS on this board who derive pleasure by insulting and belittling others need love too. Lets try and give them a little kiss on the cheek (not that cheek). After all they are suffering from not having someone to love.
Why else would they act this way?
Of course I will still give my opinion on rip off places and places that don't provide the product and/or service they promise, but I will try my best to forgo personal attacks.
What made me write this today you ask???
I just realized (again) that life is way to short.........besides, making someone happy or smile feels sooooooo much better than playing the one up game, don't you think?

Hear hear! At last a voice of peace & reason.
I also join you and from this point forward will try to keep ALL my personal insults to yourself.
(Wheeewww ... I feel so much better now.)
Cheers ...

I am almost 57, quite active still in sport The procedure was performed at a local private hospital. I assume you are not asking was it done in LOS. It only cost me a small percentage of the consulting fee as my private health insurance paid everything else. Others will have to comment of what is required in LOS
I was booked in for a morning procedure and that required fasting from the night before. It also required the taking of many litres of liquid laxatives to clear the bowel completely. This was the least pleasant part as it involved, drinks every 30 minutes followed rushes to the toilet. By midnight that was over and I had a good sleep
From arrival at the hospital to discharge was about 2 hours.
Four polyps were found and removed and I have been booked for a repeat in 12 months

As Aunty could have told us ...
... this sometimes involves having body hair removed if too luxuriant. Sheep are shorn, bobbed and crutched in NZ and the locals regard it as a national pastime. There are even sheep dog shows on prime time television on Saturday nights. Which brings me to my point. Was the male nurse cute?

Yes, sorry I assumed you were in Thailand. I await someone in Thailand who may have had a routine colonoscopy done in either Pattaya or Bangkok to respond with comments.
Thanks

I did some research for you as I have had several over the last 4 years, but I was never offered the blood test
I would be concerned about where you go in LOS, after reading this on the net

While few, if any, symptoms appear until the cancer has reached an advanced stage, treatment and survival rates improve significantly with early detection.
The Australian National Bowel Cancer Screening Program currently uses a Faecal Occult Blood Test to screen eligible Australians for colorectal cancer, with positive tests usually referred for a colonoscopy.
A colonoscopy is regarded as the best examination for the detection and removal of precancerous polyps. It also allows identification and histological confirmation through biopsy. Unfortunately, colonoscopy is a difficult procedure to master, requiring 300 to 1 000 cases to reach expert level

Why, darling, you're posting again! Does that mean the depression's lifting? Marvelous! I told you the meds were powerful these days. You're such a trooper aren't you? I admire that! Well chin up, darling. That's right, both of them.
Of course what most of you won't know is that Beryl owns quite a large sheep station in New Zealand and she always makes a point to be here at crutching time. After the shearers have cut away the dags from the sheep's dirty anuses, Beryl likes nothing more than to finish them off. Many's the time I've seen Beryl at the end of a long hard day beaming from ear to ear, with big brown lips.

TE,
I posted this on 16 March, which may be relevant:
I mentioned this to a friend recently, who told me that he had been quoted 40,000 baht for a colonoscopy at Bangkok Pattaya and 15,000 at Pattaya International. I didn't look into it any further (!).

I would note that they now offer "virtual colonoscopy" and I'm hoping that it catches on. It's some combination of xrays with a computer program that maps out the entire colon. Supposedly, the procedure is quite effective although it cannot tell if a polyp/growth is good or bad and, should a polyp or other concern show up, then they have to do the real colonoscopy to go get it. But I've read that 80% of the time the virtual colonoscopy shows no problems that need any follow-up.
Had my first colonoscopy last year at age 58.....having putting it off for years (kept telling the Doc that I was waiting for the virtual colonoscopy to show up in my area). They found nothing and the procedure itself is almost nothing; however, the preparation the night before is litterally a pain in the ass.....
If you're 50 (or younger and have any problems) and you haven't had one, not very wise. Early detected colon cancers are about 95%+ curable.
