Thai humidity / crotch area--how do you keep it dry?
I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions how to keep "that area" nice and dry and clean and rot-free in the Thai humidity. My hunch is that boxers are better than white clingy underwear, (give them some room!), and my other hunch is that it's NOT a good idea to powder that area, as the powder can actually retain moisture. Naturally, after showering, you want to keep them real dry. And I would also think that as unsightly as it may be, the more pubic hair down there, the dryer it will be, since the hair sort of acts as a barrier, and lots air flow through there, which dries out the area.
Now save the hateful email. This can be real serious if ignored. A rash down there ("crotch-rot"), which is a yeast infection, can take MONTHS to go away, and can very easily come back. I'm told it really takes a good year of being crotch-rot free for one to be safe knowing it won't come back so easily. And I think it's contageous too, which means you can get it from a massage boy who may have it. Sometimes it spreads, and even goes way up into the wazoo, if you know what I mean. Seriously, I'm not making this up.
The Thai humidity doesn't help. I'd be curious if anyone agrees or disagrees with all of this.
Also, the cover story for TIME Magazine this week is Asian men fawning over their beauty. Might be interesting to some of you queens.

Yes you are, m'dear! This sounds like the myths spread by Uncle Ho - Vietnamese women with razor blades up their boxes etc..what are you up to, Ricky?
The cabin boy, the cabin boy
That naughty little nipper
He lined his ass with shards of glass
And circumcised the skipper.

 Re: Vagina Dentata
Tinea cruris, known as "jock itch" or "jock rot," is a fungal infection caused by wearing clothes that are too tight or do not let air circulate. It usually occurs in damp, dark areas such as folds of the skin, especially in people who are overweight or if you sweat a lot from hot, humid weather or while exercising. It causes burning, redness, soreness, and itching on the genitals and the inside of the thighs.
Rubbing cornstarch on the affected area helps but sometimes a prescribed medication might be needed. Other things you can do include keeping the area clean and dry, washing your clothes frequently, and avoiding tight-fitting clothes. Don't try to wash it away - you might make it worse. You can buy over-the-counter medications for jock itch. These medications should contain the ingredient miconazole.

 Re: Vagina Dentata
Thanks for the info, FarangBoss, but I heard cornstarch was the very worst thing you could do, as it retains moisture. Even talc can do that. Even creams meant to cure it, can retain moisture, and make it worse. I'm told the best way to deal with it is with some kind of pill/tablet medication that works from the inside out.
Thanks for the great pictures, which I enjoyed quite a bit. By any chance, do you know if in fact it is contageous? I do know that more than a few of the "working boys" have this, though generally a more mild form, and not quite so widespread.

 Re: Vagina Dentata
Here's what has worked for me in the past:
Use St. Lukes Powder a couple of times a day.
Shower at least 3 times a day.
Trim the bush.
Drink lots of water.
If all else fails and you do get it:
try using a cream called " Kenacomb" it usually works well.
If that doesn't work ask the chemist for a cream for "vaginal yeast infections" These are the same thing as the miconizole but at 2% rather than the 1% used for "men's problems"
Good Luck!!!

 Re: male vaginas
I can't imagine how trimming the bush down there would help. Seems to me the more hair, the more out-of-control forestry, the more air to circulate through there, the more space between the skin folds, therefore the drier the area. Regardless, I'm glad it worked for you.
And I'm quite certain the pill I spoke of was the same thing as the cream, but pill form. I know that psychologically, people think you absolutely MUST put some cream on any skin condition, but I would be most cautious of that, as it has to retain moisture down there.
Showering often, and patting it dry are helpful. Someone once told me that it wasn't a good idea to use a blow dryer down there, as the heat actually makes for a better breeding ground for the fungus. I guess change your towels often too.
I'm still not sure if this condition is contageous or not, but I think it is.

 Ricky
A few months ago I posted "Powder". Ricky, most likely you are describing Prickly Heat, which happens when you go into a moist warm climate from a cooler one. St.Lukes as was mentioned in the posting just above this one is really good. The wording on the can says,"St. Lukes Prickly Heat Powder is cooling, refreshing and soothing. It is effectivce in relieving iching and discomfort of prickly heat. To be used after bath as an antiseptic and absorbent dusting powder and also can be applied after shave to sooth skin irritation. Apply freely several time daily."
Shower an extra time or two a day, stay in air conditioning if you can, wear loose cotton or air wicking clothing. You will be fine.

 Re: Ricky
Yes, bing, but what about shaving "that thang" down there?
To trim, or not to trim.
And I think the powder just provides some quick comfort, but does nothing to solve the problem or kill the fungus. And, sorry for repeating myself, but i'm told that ANY powder, ANY cream, will surely help to KEEP moisture there, which is the worst thing you can do.
I'm not a doctor, but common sense tells me numero uno is to keep that thang dry.

 another useful thread
and it's actually a real problem.
Most of the remedies described above are best.
I have my own..crutchless panties and when travelling on a bhat bus stick your legs high in the air and let the wind catch the affected area..wear loose clothing 'down there'..a ball gown or hoop skirt when heading for the beach works a treat and lets the air circulate. Don't worry about the odd looks..you'll get them anyway. The Aussies of course will take no notice.

 diaper rash
Ricky you seem to be putting all symptoms together. Tinea curis or jock itch needs to be treated with an antifungal, and yes it is quite contagious. Keep changing your underwear, towels etc and wash with hot water and bleach if possible. Heat rashes as mentioned usually respond to a medicated powder, or even plain corn starch. If as in your case diapers are still being used then apply baby powder liberally. The powder helps dry the moisture, it does not increase the moisture.

Rinconbay, is that your best comedy material? How long did it take you to come up with that bit?

 clarification
Just wanted to clarify that when I said I heard that blow-drying the genital region wasn't a good idea, I meant that it wasn't a good idea IF you already have a rash down there. If you're trouble-free, and have been trouble-free for at least a few months, blow-drying down there is a great idea, and is harmless.
That thang down there should be fresh as a green meadow. Fresh enough to bottle the smell, and market it as an air-freshener.
And also after a shower, rinse extra good. I know this seems like torture to some of you Brits, but let the water run a little longer. Clean that thang out.

I can't think what you mean Richard. BTW have you seen the excellent thread on trolling in the "Posting Guidlnes & Discussions Forum"?

 Re: clarification
And no doubt that thread was inspired by you. Why don't you be helpful for once and suggest a Cantonese remedy or two for this ailment.

 undies.........
Most farangs come from colder , less humid parts of the world where cotton undershorts are usually ok but in the tropics I find the best are the wicking variety mentioned earlier... They keep athletes cool and relatively dry and unlike cotton do not stay damp and do not create an inviting home for various kinds of crotch rot...
Losing weight, if obese, also helps.. Easy to find remedies in every pharmacy as the problem is common...
