I see a book of short stories by a Thai man has made it to the shortlist of the (UK) Guardian's 'First Book Award.' The Guardian first book award was established in 1999 to reward the finest new literary talent with a £10,000 prize for an author's first book. The Thai book, called 'Sightseeing' is written by by Rattawut Lapcharoensap According to the Guardian: "For most, Thailand is a dream holiday destination, but for the characters of Sightseeing it is home. Rattawut Lapcharoensap reveals a country both dynamic and corrupt, full of pride, passion and fear, and explores what it means to be a disenfranchised resident of the global village." You can read the full story (and read an extract of the book) here: books.guardian.co.uk/fba2...67,00.html |
