This experience may prove helpful to a farang wishing to help a lad with vision problems.

A few years ago there was reason to suspect my friend might need glasses. We went to a shop in Royal Garden Plaza where an examination was performed. A prescription was given so quickly I had misgivings.

We took the prescription and went to another shop for an exam where we received a differing prescription. We visited yet another shop for a third exam and received yet another prescription.

Upon showing the three differing prescriptions to the optometrist(??) he suggested we go to the Bangkok-Pattaya hospital for an examination. (Who would have guessed BPH did that?)

We visited the hospital, an examination was performed, and we were told no glasses were needed. The problem was poor lighting at the boy’s study desk. This proved to be an accurate assessment.

The hospital does (or at least eight years ago did) not dispense spectacles and has no incentive to provide prescriptions requiring correction.

I 've always used the dentist next to the Dusit called the Dusit Dentist though I doubt it's connected just takes advantage of it's name.

It's worth a visit just for the handsome dentist or his friend up the road where they take x-rays etc.
At these prices-work done in the west is just too espensive..it's 5 times cheaper and I love the way he gently massages my cheeks after.

But I never ever feel the needle go in.I'm not sure if even gives me one but he must have the othe rday as he extraxted 2 root canals and I didn't feel a thing and even better..I only had numbness that lasted half an hour or so..and a lovely night on some very pills he gave my for pain.

Thai dentists..every time.
who are all these people in my room ?

I have and very pleased but it is the one thing that is not any less expensive then USA.

Everything else I had done such as crowns ,root canals , xrays ,cleaning have been anywhere from 75% to 90% cheaper.

Implants are the same price.Guess not that many surgeons who are good at it so they decided to make some real money.

That said everything went smooth and I am very pleased.

My primary dentist was Dr Tapasitp and the surgeon works with him but I don't remember his name.

He is a young man who studied in Toronto and speaks excellent English .

I have also brought several lads to the dentist.. some have told me that is was the first time they ever went to see
a dentist..
One word of caution is that one should go with the boy to the dentist and not just give him the money to go..
Jim is a pro at this and knows the way is to bring the boy yourself and not expect him to show up for an appointment.
If you get caught up in this, you could end up frustrated and feeling foolish..

I have two dental/boys stories. One involves a young lad in a Sunee go-go bar whose front tooth was missing from a fight
or a motorbike accident. A farang called over the mamasan and asked the mamasan to bring the boy to the dentist as his
chances of being offed with a missing front tooth was minimal, at best..
A few days later the boy had a removable artificial tooth in place.. Farang was pleased and everyone happy..
A few weeks later another farang related the same story and he had the same boy taken to the dentist etc..
All this boy had to do was remove the false tooth and some kind hearted farang would step up to the plate and the boy and
the mamasan could have a laugh and pocket the baht.. True eye-witnessed story but maybe it only happened twice, who knows?

Last story, involves one the pied pipers of Sunee, who took a tribe of boys to the best dentist and found out several needed expensive
braces and other work.. When one boy missed an appointment the whole long range plan was scrapped and the boys still have ugly mouths
full of crooked teeth.. Moral is not to take on more than you can chew.. (dental pun in there someplace).. :cat:
