Post Re: WowPow at Dick's Cafe
Yes,

I have heard people comment that Dick's Cafe has become a de facto geriatric ward of sorts. Not many spring chickens hanging out there.

The spring chickens go to soi 4. If there weren't so DAMN MANY bitchy, over the top queens on that soi it might be a more pleasant place to spend some time but...

Post My tupp’nth worth and message for Wowpow

Au Bon Pain in Zeulung House near Silom underground/metro/subway entrance – mediocre to say the least (and expensive for what you get) but big windows good for watching.

Thai-Thai a few doors up from Au Bon Pain (also in CP Tower) – processed Thai food, again expensive for what you get.

The Toby Jug – not gay, and not open for much longer, but good British cuisine at a reasonable prices.

Balcony Bar and Pub (Soi 4) – reasonable food, I think better than Telephone’s offering, at reasonable prices.  But they should do burgers and mixed grill, soon I hear typical English ‘food in a basket’.

Banana House, Silom near Soi 4, look for it or you will miss it – good authentic Thai food at reasonable prices, nice staff some cute waiters.  You must try it, it’s good.

Fusion in Robinson’s – is OK with a variety of eastern cuisines along with limited choice 'Italian'.

Noodi – reasonable stuff and good quick service.

Jim Thompson – café in their shop, Surrawongse, nice environment, reasonable service.  Reminds me of what I imagine ‘Grace Brothers’ café to be like.

Zen at Convent/Silom junction – OK

Bua at Convent – Good Thai food at reasonable prices, reasonable service.

Pan Pan at Convent – recently voted the best Pizza in town, by the readers of BK (I think) freebee mag.  I agree but a little on the expensive side.

Coffee World by Pat Pong – recently refurbished an no great improvement, coffee used to be good (better than Starbucks but now they seem to have caught the Starbugs bug).

Beirut – the Lebonese restaurant behind Soishi in Silom and before the awful Subway sandwich place: a great almost undiscovered place, good food, good service and a reasonable price.  Try it.

For Wowpow – Pantip Court’s buffet is indeed excellent and well worth a try.

Good call. You obviously know the area restaurants, blaenllechau.

Post Re: Silom area eats and message for Wowpow
Best noodle soup is a small Chinese restaurant, Ratsamee, at the corner of Saladaeng, where the recipe and the decor haven't changed for thirty years. Usually sold out by by 2pm.

At the other end of the scale Zanotti is an excellent Italian in Saladaeng, but overpriced? The advantage of staying in the apartments above, is that you get room service from Zanotti's kitchen, but not at Zanotti's prices.

I thought Au Bon Pain was good, corner of Silom and Rama IV, and branches elsewhere, if you want a salad or sandwich with quality ingredients.

The restaurant at Sphynx is consistently good, while IMHO the food at Dick's has definitely gone downhill.

Le Bouchon is an excellent small French restaurant in Patpong Soi Two, conveniently placed for Screwboy.

Eat Me in Convent was overpriced and pretentious, although you can get a good duck here.

Noodi on the corner of Soi Freeman is simple and good value(cheap!)

Agree with the comments on Fuji, relevent branch in Silom Complex basement. Consistently good quality Japanese food, at a reasonable price.

Post Re: Best Pizza in BKK
I highly recommend Scouzzi if you are looking for good authentic Italian pizza. It's a fair old walk up Suriwong but well worth it. There are a number of other dishes besides pizza but I have never gotten past their excellent pies. Decent house wine and a nice selection of gelato as well. Excellent espresso as well.

Post Re: Silom area restaurant roundup
Should mention that Zanotti is opening a new wine bar in the house directly across the street from the reception area of Saladaeng Colonnade. The house used to be a restaurant owned reportedly by a Thai movie star-the restaurant failed and Zanotti has taken over and is in the final stages of renovation. The wine  bar will feature a live jazz combo and reasonably priced(so I am told) drinks.Let's hope its good so there are more alternatives to Soi 4.Should open next week.

Post wowpow's right!
Wowpow, I too had a filthy experience at Zanotti--twice!  Once I found two long hairs in my soup, and once a quite large black beetle in my salad.  Ick!

I do really like the atmosphere, the room, the location... but I've only been there 3 times, and twice bad things have happened.  I will try another place for Italian next time.

My other standbys in Silom is the Japanese place Zen, on Soi Convent.  Cheap set meals (120-150 baht) which are quite authentic and include green tea and sometimes a fresh fruit dessert too.  Nice!
