Does the US have Travel Advisory for fireigners who want to visit the USA ?. Surely, the US can provide some advices and warnings, for instance,
Don't walk around Civic Centre in LA day or night Don't take "Have a nice day" literally Beware of alligators at the Botanic park in Miami A waiter introducing himself to look after you this evening should only be translated as "please give me a big tip" Credit card fraud, inform your local bank before you leave for the US so that your bank won't block your card transactions while in the US Lower your intelligence and prepare to answer stupid questions asked by the immigration officers |

It is interesting to read what other governments have to say in official travel advisories about visiting the USA with respect to crime and health. The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advisory for the USA suggests: "You should be alert to the dangers of car and street crime in cities," and "Do not make flippant remarks about bombs or terrorism, especially when passing through US airports." It adds: "Crime You should bear in mind the following: * Do not leave your door open at any time. * Avoid wearing expensive jewellery and carrying valuable items in run down areas. * Do not sleep in your car by the roadside or in rest areas. * Avoid leaving items on display in cars. * Try to stay on main roads and use well-lit car parks. * If hit from behind while driving, indicate to the other driver to follow you to a public place and call 911 for Police help." HEALTH Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is essential; at least $1,000,000 cover, which includes hospital treatment and medical evacuation to the UK, would be wise. " Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada warns: "SAFETY AND SECURITY Criminal occurrences are frequent in many US cities, but are generally concentrated in areas that travellers are unlikely to visit. Canadians, however, should remain vigilant and alert to their surroundings. Full cooperation is recommended when stopped by police. Street crime can spill over into commercial, hotel, and entertainment areas. Riots occasionally occur; these are usually confined to the poorer districts of major cities, but the violence can spread to central commercial and hotel areas." The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade simply states: "Crime Crime rates are higher in the larger cities, such as New York, Los Angeles and Houston. Tourists are often targeted for petty crimes such as pickpocketing and theft, particularly on public transport." |
