Hurler on the ditch, in the Postbag of the Bangkok Post today, seems to know his amber nectars, describes the small variety available in rural Thailand as:
Chang: a decent if rough and strong (6.4%) with a history of having been pirated from Danish Carlsberg
Singha: a beer which somply does not appeal to non-Thais flat, sickly sweet with a chemical aftertaste reminiscent of formaldehyde
Heineken: a bland watered down mockery of the real Dutch thing.
The Thai brewers keep an iron hold on the market as new beers launched quickly fold - Amarit, Becks, Carlsberg, Mittweida and Singa Gold
He welcomes the latest new batch Tiger (good) Archa (not too bad) and Red Horse 6.9% alch (very good but hard to come by) Finally Cheers ( so awful that I drank half a bottle and poured the rest down the sink - overriding taste of sweet cherry almost like a wine cooler.
" Why I would like to ask is, why beers brewed abroad, even in ASEAN countries are not freely available in Thailand?. Why is Beer Lao or San Miguel, probably the two best beers brewed in this part of the world, are practically impossible to buy here in their original versions?"
Now which one do you swig?
The first reply to use the word piss will be cursed with a permanently loose bladder within hours.
