Post Parlous Pizza
I made a terrible mistake last night.  I ordered a pizza in a Thai restaurant.  Okay, I can already hear some of  you  muttering under your breath, 'Huh, he got what he deserved then.'  All I can say is that it looked so appealing on the picture menu - thin crust, a good covering of mixed vegetables.  As soon as it arrived, I felt a sense of foreboding.  What were those tofu-like strips doing on top of the vegetables, cunningly covered in some sort of mayonnaise sauce so that you couldn't easily remove them?  An enquiry of the waitress brought forth the cheerful answer that they were pieces of soya sausage.  One bite into a chunk of the pizza itself told me that there were worse things to worry about than mayonnaise-covered soya sausage.  The crust seemed to have been concocted out of polystyrene with foam rubber for extra flavour and the tomato paste was so sweet I might have been eating a dessert.  Sheer hunger forced me onwards, a nibble here, a scrape there, but in the end I had to admit defeat.  I paid my bill with a smile, the waitress casting a wan look at the pile of debris on my plate, and then I left.  So to all of you out there I say, By all means treat yourself to that lustrous new hairpiece that is going to knock twenty years off your age, book that flight with Lao Airlines from which you might well return alive, even wear black socks with sandals if you must.  But don't - oh, please, please don't - order yourself a pizza in a Thai restaurant.

Post Don't beat yourself up...
I've been looking for a good pizza (to my taste) for years in Pattaya. The bread and tomato sauce are the most important.  Most any toppings (not including seafood, yuck) are ok.  You were unfortunate in getting tofu.  If we want health food we will buy it.  If we want sticky, tasty, clogging cheese, slice it, top a pizza with it and we will come.

Is California Pizza still in business?  I swear they served it on cardboard.

Post Yuck!
It sounds like one of those gawd-awful combinations dreamed up...nightmared up?...by California Pizza Parlor.

The worst pizza I've ever had was from a smarmy joint in Bloomsbury: like a tortilla drenched in canned tomato sauce.

Someone told me there's a place (In North Pattaya?) I think is called DiLeo's, that is pretty good.

PS: I learned a new word, Parlous.  Thanks.

Post Best pizza in pattaya
Best pizza in Pattaya/Jomtien:  It's called Pan Pan, 1/2 between Pattaya and Jomtien, just before Therrprasit Road, nearly across from Bruno's.  Everything on the menu is good, European quality.  They also have a nice deli counter.  A big margarita pizza is 150 baht, but worth it.  I think they deliver too.  They have a big Italian menu.  This place is very popular with farangs.

Here in Farang land I have found that if I want Thai food that is similar to what I get in Thailand, I have to make it myself. You can get all the ingredients.

So, in Thailand, I bet you can get all the right ingredients and you can make it yourself.

One problem, all the "kitchenettes" I see in many of the apartments seem to lack a oven. Yes, you can buy a toaster oven, but Pizza does not cook well in one.

Post ovens
Yes, I am in a serviced apartment, with no frickin' oven.  I had to go and buy one. The first one, el cheapo from Tesco Lotus, didn't work.  The second one, an expensive one, from Home Pro, didn't work.  I finally bought an expensive microwave/convection with heating element, Whirlpool, that does work.  In 2 months, I'll be in a permanent place that has an oven, so you can stop worrying about me.

Post My favourite
Pan Pan's pizzas are okay, but I wouldn't be one to rave about them.  In London my all-time favourite is PizzaExpress, a big chain with overseas branches but none that I know of in Thailand.  Their American Hot (pepperoni with green chillies) is so good that I conveniently forget I'm a vegetarian for the duration - well, no one has ever been able to tell me what an animal called a pepperoni looks like.  If PizzaExpress ever opened a branch in Pattaya, I'd fall to my knees and shed tears of pure joy.

Post Although I am not a pizza afficionado.....
....... I find the pizza at the Italian restaurant in Jomtien Complex (Pizza Italia) to be very good -- for me far better than PanPan.  I have an Italian American friend who visits Pattaya often and he likes them as well.  This restaurant, located on the corner near Dick's Cafe, Duo House and Exxit, was the first of the places to go in Jomtien Complex as it developed over the past 4-5 years.  It is moving as we speak to a more interior corner location within Jomtien Complex with two floors of tables and balcony seating.  Try it and let us know how it is for you.

Post Best yet...
I've tried most of the pizzas in Pattaya and tonight found the best for my taste yet.  Gossip is the name and its under Day & Night 2 Hotel.

I ordered the chicken supreme.  The sauce was very nice and plenty of it. Lots of cheese too.  The crust I must say was so-so. Ha sip, ha sip.  But not bad.

Allow lots of time if you order there, they take almost 30 minutes to prepare and thats with not a lot of customers in the place.  The menu also includes nice Mexican items.
