I was there for the Sat. night party. It was great-about 2000

half drunk mostly Asian guys dancing naked to the waist. It was held in the Crowne Plaza Ballroom and the dance floor was surrounded on three sides with rising bleachers full of good looking guys.It was like a giant DJ Station with much much better music than DJs.The ambiance was great-everyone having fun and very friendly.I'd estimate that half the guys there were Thais.Talked to several Thais who were from different parts of thailand;also some DJ regulars and the occasional bar boy.I hope it becomes an annual event in Phuket.

Puke. Nation mation.  Frankly, I wouldn't want to be near  any place where the Zimmer frame, oxygen tank and bus pass crowd are not welcome.  Those half-naked hunks prancing about in Phuket are not real Asians.  They've totally lost their Asian values and have become WESTERNISED.  Real  Asians respect and adore me for my wrinkles, love handles, colonial wisdom and precious 17,000B per month.

I was at the Nation Party for the whole weekend...and I have to say the promoter should be commended for a very successful venture.  Wow, I'm sure that they made a ton of cash after this event.

There were a lot of guys from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore.  Less guys from Thailand..and hardly anyone from Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam.

I think it was a little too rich for the Thai boys to attend...but for those from more developed economies, they really enjoyed it.

Saturday night's party was clearly the best with many people telling me they really enjoyed the Sydney DJ Kate Monroe.  Manny Lehman (from USA) was also a crowd pleaser.

But these circuit party type events are really a little bit on the crazy side and I personally wonder if it is worth the money because it can get expensive (passes, hotel, airfare, airport transfers).  But they are only every once in a while.  And from the looks of things, almost all the guys were really enjoying it a lot.

It was very good having it in a controlled venue like the Crowne Plaza as it was out of sight of the regular Phuket crowd, the press, and anyone who could complain that this was too decadent.

All in all, it was  a lot of fun.  Oh, I forgot to mention the pool parties.  I think I may have enjoyed them more than the night parties as everyone was in small bathing suits prancing around the gorgeous poolside setting.  Plus, you could just lounge around on the lounge chairs, sip drinks, and watch it all go by.

I have some photos but have no idea how to put them up.  If someone wants to post the photos, I can e-mail them and they can post for me.

Thanks

Post ugh
Please stay in Singapore... we already suffered through the tsunami...we really don't need the Nation Party here. La... typical of Singaporeans, play nasty to visitors but expect pampering when elsewhere.

KARON: Nearly 2,000 people, mostly from Thailand, Singapore, Japan and the US, joined the first day and night of Asias largest gay and lesbian party, the three-day Nation V, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel yesterday.

The event features nine parties, each with a different theme, with 18 DJs from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the USA, Malaysia and Australia manning the turntables.

Events kicked off with a welcome reception at the Crowne Plaza poolside from 3 pm to 6 pm yesterday, followed by the G.Y.M. Welcome Party at the hotel from 9 pm to 3 am and the Locker Room Party in the ballroom from 3:30 am to 8 am.

The Kata-Karon Municipality had previously approved the use of Karon Stadium for this, the fifth annual Nation party. However, concern about the possibility of heavy rain led to events being switched instead to the Crown Plaza Hotel.

Stuart Koe, CEO of organizers Fridae, told the Gazette, This is a huge success for Phuket. People are flying in from all over the world, not just Asia, to celebrate this party.

He added, Partying in Phuket is different from the Singapore scene because we have the exclusive use of Crown Plaza Hotel, so its almost like were one big family.

They [partygoers] will spend the next three days together, making friends and enjoying Phuket. In Singapore, it is just one party per night; a different concept and a different event.

After the license application for this years festival was rejected by Singapore, Singapores Minister of Health was quoted as saying that concern among Singaporeans about foreigners attending the festival speading HIV was a factor in the decision.

Mr Koe said, Singapore is not mature culturally and socially with regards to gay people, so discrimination was part of it. The Health Ministry made some bad comments that reflected badly on the party.

As for health concerns, we believe that this type of event is important because it is an opportunity to reach out to the community with HIV awareness.

We are working with three organizations in Thailand the Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, and Patong Hospital to provide HIV awareness, to make sure that everybody is aware of HIV and is safe when they are here and when they go home.

He added, Once the Phuket community sees how professionally we can run this, theyll see that it is no different from hosting a corporate trip or a family holiday.

We would very much like to continue [holding the Nation party] in Phuket because the event has so far has been welcomed by people here. We have established a good understanding with everybody the Governor, the Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Karon Municipality, the police, local businesses and the community.

Its hard to find a place that has everything all the pieces. We think Phuket is ideal. We feel we would like to come back.

TAT Phuket Office Director, Suwalai Pinpradab, said, If someone comes here for the first time and is impressed, they will come back again. We think it would be a pleasure to host this event again.

Todays events include the Sanctuary Pool Party from noon to 6 pm, the Nation V Party from 9 pm to 3 am and the Insomnia Party from 3:30 am to 8 am tomorrow.

Later tomorrow, the Splash T Dance Party by the Crowne Plaza pool will start at noon and run until 6 pm, while the closing party will take place from 9 pm to 3 am tomorrow.

A final Morning Party will begin half an hour later, ending at 8 am Monday.

I keep on reading that a party like Nation is too expensive for Thais-only guys from more developed countries can afford it.Well I think this is nonsense.I saw lots of Thais at Nation.Sure there are plenty of Thais who don't have money. But there are plenty of gay middle class Thais that do-professionals,businessmen,from well to do families etc.The gay scene that farang see in Thailand(Soi 4,saunas,massage joints, gogo bars) is only the tip of the ice berg-most of the activity is among the Thais thenselves and farang(with few exceptions)are not aware that it even exists. For those Singapore haters on this board(of which there seems a lot)

Nation was not an obviously Singapore attended event.Sure there were lots of Singaporeans but they were mixed in with everyone else and it was hard to tell who was who-just a lot of young good looking guys having a good time.

Re: that portion of DB Boy's message about making photos available, I would be happy to post some on this board and on the Pattayagay.com weekly report if sent to me.  I have sent him a private message, so hopefully he will follow through and we can have some photos both on this board and in the weekly report on Thailand.

Addendum Thursday, Nov. 10:  I have received a group of photos from DBBoy, and will be posting at least a couple after the webmaster of the pattayagay.com site has given them a web presence to use for posting here.  Probably Friday morning, Thai time.  Others will be used in the weekly report this weekend.

Even though good for Phuket, I do hope that they are able to celebrate next year on Santosa Island in Singapore.

After the four years of successful festivals with no untoward incident it is disgraceful that permission was not granted this year.

The move of a major gay festival to another country far away is remarkable in the extreme. I am sure that it will pass into the legend of the fight for Gay equality in Singapore. A brilliant move and it seems still a great success. The news of this has winged it's way round the world and certainly the Singapore Government has not gained face.

Brava! Fridae!

I agree with boxers comments but i rather think this kind of party is ment for the younger guys ie 20s to late 30s and not those of later years, which includes my self.

Boxer, was that you taking Pictures in a GOGO bar in Phuket across from Connect?

When I was there, I seen a guy sitting, then using what looked to be a 35mm camera to snap a photo of the performer.

Was that you?

No Buck that was NOT me in Phuket this time.  I never film and only take still pics in bars with permission of owners where I am known.  I try to keep the audience and go go boys out of my pics unless requested to do so, or blur faces if unavoidable. Trust you had a good time!
