Is there a Rotary program for hair lips, cleft palates in LOS

PostAuthor: lonelywombat » Wed 7 Dec, 2005 6:09 am

I have just left a xmas party where there were a lot of medicos.

I arrived just as the senior guy said, "Last time I was in Thailand it was a project to operate on Thais with hair lips and cleft palates. (I) thought it was one of the most worthwhile things I have done"

The conversation flowed onto voluntary work in third world countries, and I was not impressed with the attitudes of some. The feeling that Rotary was the only service organization that does this, surprised me.

I know there are several English speaking Rotary clubs in Pattaya, and possibly there are a number of gays involved. Often we get a new thread about what to do in LOS if you retire.

Rotary gets rarely mentioned here and are there Lions clubs or similar in LOS?

I cannot recall a posting about service club activities or how to join.

I don't think it unfair to say a lot of people feel uncomfortable about working with HIV/Aids. But those same people might be interested in helping the broader community in other ways.

Are there people involved in service organizations in Pattaya, Bangkok or elsewhere

How do people join?

I think that what such people have are "Hare lips," as in Bugs Bunny.

Hare lip treatment program in Pattaya

PostAuthor: GayPattayan » Thu 8 Dec, 2005 5:15 am

We have been reporting quite regularly in the Expat Corner of the Weekly Report on the program of the Pattaya Expats Club (The Saturday Club) to provide surgical care for persons with hare lip condition, which provides full care for one patient for 5,000 baht; the Pattaya Expats Club has an extensive home page, http://www.pattayaexpatsclub.com, or get more information from the Expats Corner in the weekly reports for at least the past three weeks, as I recall now.

They have a program to solicit donations, and when the total in the donation jar reaches 5,000 baht, another person is scheduled for the life-changing surgery.

Users can delete their own posts as long as they have not been replied to yet. Please ignore the debug error that shows when you post a reply. Your post most likely went through. What that error is saying, is that someone on that thread has checked-off the option to recieve emails when people reply to the thread, but they do not have a valid email entered, so the reply cannot be emailed to them. I am working on getting this fixed. In the meantime, everyone can help by making sure they enter a valid email address in their profile, then clicking through the link that gets emailed to them and logging-in. Don't forget to enter your password in the provided space when you change your email. Sorry for the glitch.
