The UK could soon follow, considering our balance of trade deficit, consumer debt & excessive government borrowing.

dollar versus baht

PostAuthor: jimnbkk » Thu 18 Sep, 2008 9:31 pm

The dollar was rebounding slowly against the Baht up until the last couple of days. Now, it's slowly sinking again. With the new 'plan' by Hank Paulson, Sec'ty Treasury, and Bernake of the Fed, what's likely to happen? Does it mean the US of A begins to print money wholesale? And, does it mean that the dollar is weaker? So, does that mean that the dollar will sink faster against the Baht?

Somebody on this forum must have a learned opinion, and I'd like to hear it.

" Hey US, Welcome to the third world "

Having visited places like Ponca City, and suburbs of LA, makes me think that the US has been heading in that direction for years.

Printing presses are blazing

PostAuthor: rincondog » Thu 18 Sep, 2008 11:15 pm

Jimnbkk

Does it mean the US of A begins to print money wholesale?

Yes, the treasury is printing money to cover the over 800 billion that it is costing so far on financial bailouts.

And, does it mean that the dollar is weaker?

The value of the dollar will drop, which will increase inflation for Americans.

So, does that mean that the dollar will sink faster against the Baht?

I think this is difficult to predict, since if the crisis is global it will depend on Thailand's financial situation as well. Although, I would think in the short term the dollar will drop against the baht. However, it may depend on the Thai political situation as well as their economic situation. A lot of variables to consider.

I guess we could all pool our ignorance OR we could put the same time to better use by reading from the guy who predicted all this would happen two years ago - Nouriel Roubini - http://www.rgemonitor.com

Very impressive that you or anyone on this board would even know the name of Nouriel Roubini.

America entering the Third World...

PostAuthor: Henry Cate » Fri 19 Sep, 2008 2:43 pm

...and overnight, too!

Most of the folks on this forum would like to ignore (or overlook) the fact that Americans earn a lot of money because they have a lot of capital.

I am not talking about printed money, or financial instruments. I am talking about capital machinery, and the huge investment in all aspects of human life. As a result, an automobile assembler in Detroit earns enough to go on TV and complain about recessions -- on his yacht.

So, please...when American beggars begin swarming foreign tourists for handouts...let me know.

Until then, it's all envy and mental masturbation.

I'm not sure, but I do know that it doesn't drop from heaven into the hands of the hordes of "pan-handlers" who are forever approaching me whenever I'm in San Francisco. Perhaps that's why Henry dislikes the place so much - no enough yachts for the poor

you see..I've even floored Homintern who I thought would at least take a stab at it !!( although he's knifed poor Henri !)

If you deposit $1 in a bank-generally it can lend 10 times that.

Sometimes they lend to another financial institution that in turn lends 10 times again !

Thus-the pyramind rises higher and higher..but there must be a ceiling.

and of course the poor taxpayer is always the one who must bail out everyone when the pyramid crumbles ala Fannie Mac or Freddie May or whatever the f**k they are called.

Nationalise the lot !! come on Comrades-you know it's the only way.

Lenin lives ,Tito is alive !
