Hi,

Can anyone tell me where to go in Pattaya to purchase Health Insurance for my other half? Thanks.

BUPA has an office on Sukumvit just past Pattaya Nua on the left going towards Bangkok.

BUPA health insurance probably best, but exclusions hurt

PostAuthor: GayPattayan » Mon 5 Dec, 2005 1:33 am

BUPA seems to be about the best health insurance generally available here, but anyone buying it should be aware of the long list of exclusions. They are apparently like most other Thai health insurance policies, but exclusions for AIDS, HIV or any incident arising from them, pre-existing conditions or conditions for which you have been treated in the past (apparently without a time limit), and many, many others could cause problems. But all in all, it is still a good investment.

Is it an investment though? The experience of many of my older friends is that as they started making claims as years progressed the amounts demanded for renewal grew almost exponentially.

More of a gamble for the current year than an investment, it would seem. Do BUPA or any of the others offer future proofed health insurance or do all policy providers re-assess their risk after claims?

I discovered several policies targetting expatriates that were simply a gamble on hospitalisation. If you were hospitalised they paid out a set amount. In no way would they cover actual medical expenses. They were really only good for paying for hospital accomodation.

Health Insurance

Both Pattaya Sports Club and one of the Expat clubs offer Health Insurance through A/a as a group policy. Purchasing the health insurance this way cuts the premiums significantly and the only additional expense is the price of membership to either organization. It is offered to both Thais and farang below the age of 65.

Age

One of the reasons I insured with BUPA is that if you take out a policy before age 61, then they will continue to insure you until your demise or you cancel. Most companies do not insure past a certain age.
