VIETNAMESE police were to formally charge British glam rocker Gary Glitter with child molestation and drop an additional charge of child rape, his Vietnamese lawyer said.
Police have said medical tests on girls who alleged they had had sex with the 1970s rock icon, who was arrested last month, led them to look into the more serious charge of raping children which can carry the death penalty.
"The investigation has ended and the charge will still be the initial one, while additional issues were not raised by investigators, probably because of a lack of evidence," Glitter's lawyer Le Thanh Kinh said.

It's bad enough that busybody NGO's in third world countries drive these sort of fraudulent charges but having a powerful newspaper that caters to perverts like the News Of The World on a person's case just to flog fish & chip wrappers is outrageous.
No-where has it been reported that reporters from these
ing British rags encouraged a number of young girls to make these rape charges and promised them help in suing Glitter for compensation : 8000 pounds each, a small fortune for them. No wonder the local authorities backed off. The same people ( corrupt reporters )are at large in Thailand as well.
