If you order a hotel in Pattaya before your start your trip ask for a taxi. I will be in Pattaya next feb and the hotel send me a taxi about, 2 hours to drive and 2.000 bath or les ( rate 40 bath for 1 dollar i think ).
There must be a bus as well very cheap, but mostly Thai people using bus.
About the hot locations go look at www. Pattayagay there are maps and all bars, gay hotels, and all information you need you will find. More information how life is over there, you can find in this forum.
I not have been there last 7 years, but a lot off people from USA stay there, i hope they give you more information as i can gives you.
Enjoy your Holiday and have good fun, but be care full as well, you will find out that money is the biggest love in Pattaya.

Welcome to our community. There are many of us who are very willing to give you advise of a specific nature. I agree with the others who suggest that you look through the gay pattaya sites for information then come back here with pointed questions. I would also suggest you check out the articles on the  www.gaybutton.com  site.

We are all individuals here with widely varied tastes therefore we need to know more about your interests before we can give you worthwhile information. Check out the gay Pattaya sites, decide on your preferences, then come back with what you like and we will offer further information, reviews and critiques.

Post First timer to Pattaya and all
How to get there: taxi. Do not fart about... just get a taxi. The price should be 1500 baht... even 2000 baht is worth it. There are also minibuses from the airport... or you can get a bus. Whatever you do avoid the touts. One way is to arrange a taxi in advance FROM Patty. You simply ring them or email them and they will be there. I have never been failed. Again 1500-2000 baht is about the price... the cost of an average meal in a NYNY restaurant, or half the cost in a London restaurant.  I am sure some of the experts on this site will now post phone numbers...

Once there... there are tens of thousands of rooms. Get to Boys Town. Try the Serene Hotel for a night... then look around and find a better place.  Try the Welcome Plaza... site on the net... or Howards... site on the net... or try something in Jomtien Complex... is is easy easy... all you need is just one night in Boys Town and a couple of people to chat to and a day on Jomtien and you will be a veteran. (When everywhere closes at one... go to the Piano Bar at the Cafe Royal and chat to a Farang and he will tell all - there will be a dozen there, fading into the night and the autumn of their lives... enjoying every damned minute of it -  experts all).

The Thais are OK. It is the safest place in the world... except sometimes. And the baht bus service is astounding. You have to wait for a bus for 10 seconds and it is about 20C to go anywhere...

And read what the rest of this crowd now have to say, most of them know what they are talking about.

Contact me direct for more specific info.

MS (not her sister SM) will be there when 'all once a yearers have left'. Where is the sin in going once a year? And how many two weekers does SM (Sorry MS) do in a year....?  One?  This is not an attempt at opening a fire fight... but less blame and more data would be helpful to our new friend. And another small point is if we all 'don't know nuthin'" it follows that we know something.... so should be listened to.

Post First visit.......
Dear Farang,

I rather envy you! The delights of Pattaya await you, and that first visit is going to be fantastic!

1) You could book a car via whatever hotel you have decided to stay at in Pattaya, or go to the Thai Limousine desk at the airport, or even walk out to the front of the airport (in that wonderful sensuous heat) and join the short and fast moving queue for the taxi. There is a small desk staffed by young women who speak good english and are very helpful. The taxi will be cheaper, but do not talk to the touts who will harrass you in the queue (just smile and politely shake your head).

2) Stay in Boyztown, either at Cafe Royale or Ambiance. These are in the centre of the action, well run and very helpful. They are overpriced of course, but not in a way that will worry a travelling American, just that there are other places which are better value. But for your first trip they are ideal. I would prefer Cafe Royale personally, mainly because of the terrace seating from which you can safely survey the world as it washes past you..........

3) Ladyboys/Kathoey are not my forte, sorry, but I think that most of the go go bars cater for wide tastes, so you should find what you are looking for quite easily. Have a good walk around, stop in to a few different ones (watch your alcohol intake in the heat, take a few soft drinks in between, and remember to drink plenty of water). A good starting point might be Funny Boys opposite Cafe Royale. Please do also use Panorama Bar at the end of the same soi. A big open fronted beer bar, no go go boys, but plenty of friendly waiters who will keep you company and talk to you if you want (mostly quite feminine boys as I remember).

Most of all.........ENJOY!!!!!

There are so many of us who had happy lives back in the other world, visited Thailand, moved here, and are now happier than we’ve ever been.  I hope (think) the same will happen to you.

An excellent way to meet helpful, knowledgeable farangs is to stop by the Thais4Life book shop any Wednesday afternoon around five o’clock.  Another is to visit Memories Bar where you will find Jack and Ralph with a few friends.  They are both located in the Sunee Plaza area in Pattaya.

A lot of positive posts here.

I will be the devil's advocate.

The Thais are human. The ones who work in the tourist areas are a bit jaded but most will smile, if you smile.

They will rip you off in a New York second. It isn't the money... a few baht here and there, but it is the principal of it. Don't let it piss you off too much.

Not sure how you will get around...Motorcycle taxi or baht buses. Either way try to always carry lots of 20 baht notes. No one seems to have change for a 100 baht note.

I used to take the baht buses everywhere, but now I use the motorcycle taxis. It's cheap (20 baht) for a mile or less.  I know a lot of guys that claim the motorcycle rides are unsafe because these guys drive in a manner different than the U.S. but one must remember that the motorcycle guy doesn't want to have an accident either. A wreck for him could put him out of business for a few days and they really don't want the hassle. Try to remember that half the fun is getting to your destination. ;-)

Watch your drink A L W A Y S. Never leave your drink unattended. N E V E R.

Don't give your passport to anyone E V E R.... except the proper government officials. They (the officials) will never keep your passport. They always will give it back. Of course the hotel and bank officials may wish to look at it....but only look and maybe make a copy of it.....but will not keep it.

I wish I could tell you of certain business, bars, cafes and shops where the owners frankly don't care about anything but extracting money from your wallet, but we don't have a consumer affairs bureau here in Thailand and posting comments of thieving businesses on this site pisses off the owners and their friends.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the wonderful Country. Try not to let the small stuff piss you off.

Enjoy your visit.

PS: For you non US guys... Pissed off = make you angry (but you knew that right?)

Post Big Ben above
Very sane advice from Big Ben - definitely a merit click.. now given. I always use mo'cy guys and lasses in town... and often down to Jomtien. Always wear the crash helmet! Always negotiate in advance. I usually say 20 but give them 10. Only had one that scared the shit out of me... but we didn't hit anything. They also take you exact spot to exact spot rather than nearby.

Oh -  and I think 'pissed off' is actually a Limey expression picked up by our cousins, rather than being invented by them.

Post Congrats
Well done Big Ben. You have spoken a lot of truth in your post about the realities of Thailand. So many here look at this country and it's people through rose-tinted glasses. Should anyone dare to say anything against it or them (even if it is the truth) you will feel the back of thier hand across you farang face

However this place is not the land of smiles as the TAT would have you think. Yes its a great place to holiday especially for us gay guys, and yes it's a decent place to live in, especially if retired. But it is far from paradise.

As with every other country there are bad people here. Rip-off merchants, thiefs and murderers. Only this week another farang, this time a young English guy was murdered by people he was employing for the massive sum of 20,000 Baht on Koh Chang. Why? Because they wanted to celebrate new year and didn't have any money, whereas he did.

So, come and enjoy this country. But be aware that the smiles very easily turn to
