Year of the Dog.Well, depending on what you call a lot, there's a lot; to much to type it all here, anyway.
Check here, Amaretto: http://www.tatnews.org/events/events/feb/2421.asp#1 `....Now I know how Joan of Arc felt,

Amaretto, just go down to China Town (Yarowat) to enjoy CNY in BKK. The main streets are closed off and there are street stalls selling Chinese and Thai handicrafts and food. There are some temporary stages with shows and pop bands and also groups of chinese acrobats climbing high poles and descending by spinning around with ribbons tied around their necks - like a May-pole - you've got to see it to understand!
There are crowds of people and it's all great fun. Remember to wear a red shirt !
Sorry to say, Amaretto, there's nothing particularly gay about Chinese New Year. Most bars will probably have a few Katoey's dressed in Cheongsam's (Chinese dresses) lip-syncing to some Beijing Opera or Shanghai Lounge number for the benefit of the odd Chinese that my be in the audience, but CNY is really a family oriented event.
So most filial sons (however much a raving homo they may be) will be at home attending endless Reunion Supper's, kissing Aunties and fending of questions like "Got girl friend or not, ah", "When is your wedding date, meh?" and "Where's my grandchildren, hor?" Don't expect big celebrations in the 'scene' or the Thai community. It's not a big deal to the non-Chinese Thais anyway.
There are some fantasic pictures of Chinese New Year in Bangkok in 2003 added today in Ameretto's blog:
http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/fo ... g.php?w=12 I Am adding them to the public photo album, which will include them in the random photos shown on the top of the portal page as well. Alas, if we but do right under restraint of authoritative observance, where then is the merit?

Chinese New YearI was in Pattaya in February 2004, and went to an Isaan New Year Extravaganza in the place where the circus was this fall. It was an exciting show (Many boys, many costumes), and the gay and khatoey crowd was there in force. I had a blast, and the boys I was with also enjoyed it. Maybe that was a one-off???

"Special" Show.
Times I've been there, not much. A few bars had signs out front: "Special Show! No Minimum! No Cover!" which translated to, only "Special" for them: added revenue. "No Minimum! No Cover" = Double drink price. If there is an Issaan show, taking a few boys and making your own party (per jimnbkk) is your best best. There was show, outdoors, next to the new condo bldg. on Soi Yensabai \ Sunnee last year but wasn't much touted and no one I know went. We saw it going on; I asked bf if he wanted to go. He said, "No. We go room and...." "And! And? I thought." "Watch terrerrbission," said he. (After terrerrbission we did the, "And! And? stuff.) There once was a young man named Skinner who took a gatoey to dinner; at eight it was in `er-- Not Skinner, the dinner! Skinner was in `er before dinner. `....Now I know how Joan of Arc felt,
