Chiangmai hotels and hotel websites

PostAuthor: blinkblink » Tue 29 Nov, 2005 5:01 am

Will be travelling to Chiang Mai for a 4day trip and am thinking of staying at Suriwongse Hotel, Porn Ping Tower or Montri Hotel. Can anyone suggest which of these three will be most gay friendly and also most convenient location.
I have used thaihoteldiscount to make my hotel bookings but unfortunately, they don't even send you a hotel voucher through the email. You are expected to pop into the hotel and tell them you are booked through them. Fortunately, so far things have gone well. Which other hotel booking websites do you guys use which is reliable and provide the best rates? Heard sawadee.com is reliable. Thaihoteldiscount does give one of the best rate.

www.cruisingforsex.com/index_1.php?fb=b ... forumid=82 has a longish trail; on Chiang Mai Hotels and a link from me to Thorntree's trail on the Montri.

I have used Thaihoteldiscount several times with no problem. I just take a printout of their confirmation. They were very helpful when I was disappointed with the depressing rooms at the Suriwongse and helped me move without an penalty or cancellation fee.

Blast from the past The Montri

Is that just near the wall.

I stayed in CM many years ago at a place that had western ( italian) and many icecreams and cakes and I was farang food in denial.

It was Songkran and the procession went past the hotel and into the main part of the city. I have tried to identify the hotel for several years not because it was comfortable but I have a sweet tooth

The website confuses me. But the name seems familiar.

PJs Place -- a small, gay guesthouse gets good reviews

PostAuthor: GayPattayan » Tue 29 Nov, 2005 8:51 am

If you're interested in a small place with a very personal touch and highly recommended by a couple of posters, PJs Guesthouse in Chiang Mai is worth checking out. Reports on it in the Pattayagay.com weekly report several times recently, most recently a week ago in the white water rafting story. Earlier reported on by our regular Chiang Mai correspondent.
Nice web site: www.pjs-place.com
Porn Ping

PostAuthor: Dboy » Tue 29 Nov, 2005 5:21 pm

Porn Ping's in the middle of things so it would be fine. If you like smaller places, check out www.souvenir-guesthouse.com/

Lotus www.lotus-hotel.com/ is a bit higher-end, a few boy bars near by (and one right across the street) but not central to town.
Not Good!

PostAuthor: Dick » Tue 29 Nov, 2005 5:38 pm

All the agencies I have used over the years to effect hotel bookings, have provided by email a voucher to present to the hotel, to evidence the pre-paid booking.
I am assuming you have paid up front.
If you haven't then no financial loss if the receptionist looks at you blankly, then smiles, when you arrive. But if you have provided credit card details or paid money, I don't understand why you don't have a voucher... the agencies provide the voucher because they don't want you to otherwise divulge to the hotel the actual amount you have paid over to them vs. what the agency pays to the hotel. If you've paid do$h, I would be on the phone to them for a receipt/voucher.

As regards other agencies, it all depends on where you are headed and who might have the best agreed rates with a particular hotel. There's no guide other than web search, word of mouth, trial and error. If it helps, I have happily booked through:
www.ash-hotel.com/
www.sawadee.com/
www.thailand-hotel.net/
www.e-biz-travel.com/
www.asiatravel.com/
You might also try:
www.thaihotels.org/
www.thaihotels.com/
I had other web sites book marked but these agencies would appear to no longer to exist.

Do use a search engine for hotels in your given area, then checkout the agencies listed for whatever hotels given... you may find one with preferential rates above the rest for your preferred hotel. I always use Sawadee.com as my yardstick... a very good agency/site in itself, but you may find slightly better rates elsewhere if you look, as well as those more expensive.

I haven't stayed there myself, but I too had book marked
www.lotus-hotel.com/ based on previous comments from this forum.

Hope that helps.
Dick
Edited by: Dick at: 29/11/05 6:03 pm

Thanks

PostAuthor: blinkblink » Wed 30 Nov, 2005 4:51 am

Thanks Dick and others. I made my payment through the website with credit card. All I got was confirmation but luckily, I never had any problem with the hotels when I checked in. Its just that I have heard from my friends that they face some problems checking into a hotel in BKK without any vouchers.
I do hope that I am not making a wrong choice in choosing Montri or Suriwongse Hotel in Chiangmai. I want a location where I can walk around easily. Thanks again.

I use www. asiarooms. com/thailand who seems to have the cheapest prices. No problems with reservation, voucher and so on.

Edited by: hajuthai at: 30/11/05 8:44 am

I have also used www.asiarooms.com three times recently, for hotels in Singapore and Bangkok.

Found their system works well, prices are good. Will use them again for sure.

Here are a few photos of the Lotus hotel room.

If you try to go to sleep before 2 or 3 am, forget it. They blast the music in that place in a disco inside the hotel and you can hear the bass thump the walls. But once I fell asleep I didn't notice it hehehehe
I've just looked back over the thread and focused on Wowpows' remarks:
"I have used Thaihoteldiscount several times with no problem...They were very helpful when I was disappointed with the depressing rooms at the Suriwongse and helped me move..."

So + for agency; - for hotel. Why not ask the agency to suggest an alternative?
Dick
