Cambodia Visa mix up

Post Cambodia Visa mix up
There have been several questions recently about Visa requirements for Thai citizens. I'm not sure if the following is a cautionary tale but it might be worth bearing in mind for travellers to Cambodia.

I took my Thai Boyfriend to Cambodia last year and I checked with the agent who organised the trip and with the Cambodian Embassy in London. They all said he did not need a Visa.

I was told to take two passport size photos for myself and $25 to complete a form on arrival.

When I approached the entry point with my boyfriend an official guided us together into the Visa queue. My boyfriend said he didn't need a Visa but the official insisted he did. In all such circumstances my boyfriend's first reaction is to burst into tears. Luckily I was able to fill in the form for him and I produced, to his astonishment, the two photos I'd bought of him for just such eventualities, and the $25.

I had the distinct feeling though that the $25 went into the official's pocket.

Post Interesting...
Thanks for the info. Although I did get the information from official channels it's just as well that I didn't believe it and went prepared.

and with the Cambodian Embassy in London

Why don't you write to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and point out that his Embassy is issuing erroneous advice.

What would have happpened if you weren't such a cynic? More tears before bedtime? I always make a point of firing 'orf complaint letters when I've been given the run around like this - it's the right thing to do.

Post photo for pass for Ankor Wat as well
If I recall, you need a photo as well to get a pass to visit Ankor Wat, at least when I was there a few years ago.

Yes you do need a photo for Angkor Wat but there is a facility on site if you haven't got one with you. I always travel with a supply of photos as they can be handy.

Post extra photos..
yes for sure, always handy. I was traveling for business in China a lot about 4-5 years and there would be companies I would visit which would require me to fill out a form and attach a photo to get a pass to enter their facility.

Like you I always carry about 6-8 extra photos just in case.
