AWARD-winning British comedy actor Chris Langham was arrested in connection with an Internet child pornography investigation, police sources said today.

Langham, 56, who was named Best Television Comedy Actor at the British Comedy Awards, was arrested last month and released on police bail.
"A 56-year old man was arrested on Tuesday, November 29 at an address in Cranbrook, Kent, in connection with an ongoing investigation into Internet-related crime," a police spokeswoman said.

"The investigation relates to the downloading and or distribution of child pornography."

In a statement issued through his lawyer to the Daily Mirror newspaper today the actor and writer said he had been held and questioned but not been charged with any offence.

"I was arrested by police in an inquiry into offences relating to computer use," Mr Langham said.

One of Mr Langham's best known roles was playing presenter Roy Mallard in People Like Us.

He was in the original line-up for Not The Nine O'clock News and appeared alongside Griff Rhys Jones in Alas Smith and Jones.

Another top rated-show he appeared in was The Thick Of It.

One of his most recent TV roles was in the BBC show Help alongside Paul Whitehouse.

Film roles include Carry On Columbus, The Big Tease and The Life Of Brian.
