The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, in a major overhaul of its operations, will in nine months operate airconditioned buses on newly-adjusted routes that will connect with rail transit systems and fares will be collected at a flat rate of 10 baht. The announcement was made jointly by Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Transport Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal and Deputy Transport Minister Chainant Charoensiri after their meeting with the BMTA board of directors and executives yesterday.

Mr Suriya said existing airconditioned bus lines would be re-routed to reduce overlap. There would be new routes, which would link up with rail transit systems, to the outer parts of the city.

The routes would be shortened to less than 20km from 30-40km. There would be nodes and bus terminals to ensure the smooth flows of passengers at Mor Chit 2, Victory Monument, Klong Toey, Wong Wian Yai and Sanam Luang in the inner part of the city, Bang Khen, Happy Land, Bang Na, Rama II, Bang Khae and Rama V in the outer part of the city and Pak Kret, Rangsit, Suvarnabhumi, Samrong, Pak Nam, Samut Sakhon, Om Yai and Bang Luang in the suburbs.....
