Post Too late?
Oh yes one more question.

We will be arriving into Singapore airport at 21.00 on a wednesday night...

How long does it take to get to the city centre from the Airport?

What time does the night life finish...

ie. will 11.00 in the night be too late to have a good night out on a wed night??

Post Johar Bahru
Just found flight on AirAsia Bkk to Johar Bahru departing on the same dates, for 5536 THB + 1000 departure tax...

So in order to save 4000 THB, I guess this means we won't be flying direct to Singapore (one more stamp for his passport!)

I remember doing the bus journey from Singapore to Johar in the past, but can't remember how long it took...

Anyone know?

Why don't you try it first and let us know how it turn's out?  By the way, are you paying the full trip for your boyfriend, or is he coughing up some of the expense?

ColmX,

If you want budget accommodation in Singapore, try Hotel81. A small chain of cheap Hotels with rooms at S$40++ and no questions asked! Newly opened branch in Chinatown would be a good bet. Otherwise ‘Gay Friendly’ is not really an issue in Singapore, due to the low profile of the gay population. As long as you are discreet you will have no problems with two guys sharing a room anywhere.

If you fly AirAsia into Changi, you can get a cab into town for about S$15 which will take about 20mins. 11:00pm is not too late for a night out as bars and restaurants stay open late, but nowhere will be really jumping on a Wednesday. Try Waterbar, Taboo or WhyNot, all in Tanjong Pagar area.

If you fly into Senai (Johor Bahru) there is a free shuttle bus to the City Lounge in ‘downtown’ JB and a S$1 bus across the causeway. You can catch bus 170X into town or just take a Singapore Taxi from JB all the way for S$26!

Valuair only started operations a few weeks ago and had a few hiccups on the first flights to Jakarta, due to lack of official landing rights! Waiting passengers were transferred to Garuda flights at no extra cost. No bad reports about the SIN-BKK route though. Valuair is positioning itself as a ‘medium cost’ operation with some meals served on board – and leather upholstery! I have booked hotels using www.asiatravel.com previously with no problems. I suggest you don’t take the cheapest option at THB5300 unless you are happy sleeping in bunks at the Y! Pay THB500 more and choose the Allson or Excelsior.

Post About SINGAPORE (Title Edited)
Hi All

I am planning a trip Thailand in July, I think I may finally have sourced some flights (DUB-AMS-BKK, with China 910 Euro - arrgh!)

Seeing as my BF did not get a visa for Ireland (yet!) we are planning on using that never used passport for a trip to Singapore (his choice! I wanted to go to Chiang mai!)

I stayed in s'pore before, but that was in my backpacker days.... think i stayed in the Fragrant Rose hotel or something!

Can anyone recommend a gay friendly, budget and central hotel in Singapore (near the gay scene if there is any!))

We are lokking at flying AsiAsia BKK-SIN will cost 9314THB + 1000 Departure tax for the 2 of us ... think this is good value?

My guess is that you will make out far better by getting a package for air and hotel together, and will probably end up in a much higher rated hotel than you would otherwise select if you were paying for it yourself. My last trip to Singapore, I calculated that the four-star place we stayed was basically a free throw-in on the airfare. Singapore is an expensive place to stay, expecially compared to Thailand, and I think you will get far more for your money if you book a package.

Post Air Asia
I think the price of Air Asia to Singapore is only 900 Baht (one way without tax and fee). Meanwhile, to Johor Bahru is 999 Baht (one way without tax and fee).

Value air from Bkk to Singapore is 3400 Baht (without tax and fee)

This coming June, there will be a travel mart in Bangkok. Maybe you can get promotion price.

From Singapore Changi airport, you can use MRT directly go to downtown. It takes around 30 minutes up to Orchard road. Or you may take a mini cab from airport to any destinations in Singapore (except Sentosa island). It charges only S$7 per person per trip.

To Sen Yai: for JB Senai airport to JB downtown, is there any free shuttle bus? is there a sign inside the airport? Because I am planning to go there.

Enjoy the trip then!

You heard it here first!

Is there a sign in the airport? TIM - This is Malaysia!

Thanks for reminding me of the minibus and MRT options from Changi. These are further low-cost options for Colmx and b/f. I always just jump in cab!

Post Senai airport city lounge
Thanks Sen Yai for the information.

I saw the website of the Senai airport city lounge. However, I also read at the top part that the business hours is 6 am to 12 am. Does it mean that the free shuttle bus is only that hours?

Thanks again!:rollin

There's a travel supplement in Thursdays Bangkok Post which occasionally has a few good deals advertised.

Have you thought that the fact that he was only 19 at the time might have been a contributing factor in the refusal to grant a visa (and I don't recall that piece of information being made public in previous discussions)?

Post More Singapore queries
Hi All

I have finally managed to secure flights to Thailand and will be arriving in Thailand on July 12 (my BFs 20th birthday) for 2 short (but hopefully really enjoyable! 2 weeks)

Given the list of singapore hotels below, can anybody recommend which one gives the best value for money Versus Location....

As a guideline I usually stay in the Pinnacle/Welcome Plaza/BFs room... so neither of us are overly fussy!

Post Singapore Hotels
I think colmx is talking about a combined flight and accommodation package here. A 3days/2nights package booked through AsiaTravel with flights on Valuair. It does seem to be good value.

Colmx, there are too many choices to comment on them all, but from the 3 star's (I wouldn't bother with the Budget group) I would choose the Peninsula. This is in a central location and right next to the Funan IT Mall - a techies heaven! Alternatively, the Berjaya Duxton would be an interesting choice, in a renovated Chinese shop house and quite classy (surprised this is 3 star), and close to several gay clubs in Tanjong Pagar!

From the 4-stars either Carlton or Orchard would be good - both typical tourist hotels.

If you splash out on a 5-star, go for the Meritus Mandarin, right in the middle of Orchard Road. However, you may not wish to spend too much time on a street full of (genuine) Prada, Gucci and Louis Tingtong outlets with your b/f in close proximity to your credit card!
