![]() One of our Thai friends has been working a long time in a very nice Restaurant in the Silom area (Soi 19). It’s called Café de Laos, but serves mainly excellent Issan and Laotian food. For instance, they have 17 different Som Thams and a whole range of Larb variety. It’s actually in a colonial house, but surrounded by High-rise buildings. You can sit outside or inside (air-conditioned, but not too cold). Moreover, for those who care, the owner and all the employees, including the girls, are gay. Will be staying at the Pinnacle Lumpini for awhile in November. I always seem to eat at the same few thai restaurants in the area (silom). Anybody have any other "favorites" in that area that serve good thai food at cheap to medium prices?

To get the right direction, I think you need to be more specific about prices, and price rage. Being cheap for someone may be very expensive for another. Don't forget that members here have various tastes...from frugal to extravagant.
On a separate note, I wonder how much this little boy paid for his meal....

I thought your reply to Cameron a little unfair. He said he would be staying at the Pinnacle (not the Oriental), and had tended to eat in the Silom area in the 'cheap' to 'medium' price bracket. It was pretty clear to me he was looking for good value or inexpensive restaurant suggestions. I suspect you too understood full well the question, yet used it as an opportunity to turn it with the heart wrenching photo you attached. There are many who read this Board that silently give to help aid the suffering depicted by your picture, and it doesn't hurt to remind us of the hunger and suffering that exists in this world. Personally I feel that drawing attention to such plight would be better accomplished in a thread in its own right, lest its importance be devalued by an 'eating out' question, and where you might perhaps provide details of any charity that has impressed you with its work to alleviate such suffering. Cameron I rather like the Yok Yor restaurants (I think it was Dame Napkin that first recommended so I went to sample). I prefer the 'cook' at the Klongsan venue. If you haven't been it's worth booking. Have a look at Yok Yor restaurants and follow the restaurant and Klongsan links with map (free ferry to/from the pier alongside River City). Clean food, good taste, not expensive! Dick Edited by: Dick |
